The Story of
Die Tonfabrik is a privately owned pottery studio situated in the lovely coastal town Swakopmund, on the west coast of Namibia.
Die Tonfabrik was established by Carola Lorck (Carola Lorck Ceramics) in 2013 and is a pottery studio where pottery classes are offered to local clay enthusiasts and a pottery shop where basic pottery utensils and clay can be acquired.

Inspired by the colours and textures of the landscape around her, Carola Lorck produces creations that reflect the singular beauty of Namibia. With over 20 years of experience, she is committed to producing unique functional yet beautiful pieces that seduce those that are fortunate enough to own and use them.
She also produces evocative artistic work that broadly references Namibian history and culture.
A former Chairperson of the Potter's Association of Namibia, Carola has participated in numerous exhibitions, and was awarded the Decorative Merit award in 2011 and in 2017 won third prize in the Wheelwork category.
She has also taught ceramics classes for nearly a decade and has a loyal local following. Carola’s ongoing research project into the multicolour sands of Namibia has resulted in a unique body of utilitarian works. These items incorporate sand in the clay body and on the surface, resulting in unique tactile works and surprising glaze colours.
Her distinctive work enables tourists to take a little bit of Namibia home with them.
